Trauma, Behavior, and the Capacity to Learn: What do I do in the Classroom?

  • August 14, 2014
  • 8:30 AM - 12:45 PM
  • Baker College - Welcome Center 2800 Springport Road, Jackson

Teachers are strongly urged to attend this important workshop

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Identify the types of trauma children have that is then expressed through disruptive behavior,
  • Identify the root causes of the trauma and what can be done within the classroom to help these children,
  • Learn about the local community resources available to direct families to for help.

Attendees will actively fill out a chart that goes over the "effects of trauma" the "observable signs" and the many "corrective measures." Most of the time will be spent on the "corrective measures" so teachers can walk out of the workshop ready to implement strategies. The information will be applicable to virtually any age child, but the main focus will be on the young child (pre-k through 3rd grade).

Please RSVP to Kelly Sheppard at kelly.sheppard@jcisd.org or by calling (517) 768-5281.
